Yesterday I made a patient with severe right thoracic scoliosis. The spinal deformity, in aggravation, it was important due to imbalance of the column back injury and began to affect even the respiratory function.
The surgery performed to correct the deformity arthrodesis and stabilization with titanium instrumentation (pedicle screws, hooks and connecting rods) aims to correct but also halt the progression of spinal deformity.
The clinical and radiographic outcome was excellent but we must not forget that this is a more complex surgery, even at the risk of possible serious complications, and for this reason must in my opinion be done only in highly specialized centers in the management of spinal pathologies.
